How do I prepare my pool for the summer?

Tips for a successful start to the pool season: Our checklist for the correct winterisation and commissioning.

Checklist: How to get your pool ready for summer

As soon as the days finally start getting longer and nature delights us with its spring greenery and colourful blossoms, the desire to bring the pool blue to life inevitably increases. But after the winter, just put the water in and start swimming? Not such a good idea. To make sure your pool is ready for summer, our experts have put together a practical checklist for winterising your pool:

Get rid of the water
If there is still "old" water in your pool, get rid of it quickly. Leave it out, because once the deposits have dried up, cleaning can quickly become a test of patience. Please note:
  • Before emptying the pool, you should check the groundwater level.
  • Never empty the pool without supervision.
  • Under no circumstances should you lower the water level when the ice cover is closed and the ground is frozen.

Off to clean
For a proper basic cleaning, it is best to use Bayrol's "Decalcit Super". Apply the cleaner with a sponge, spray bottle and brush and let the product soak in for 5 to 10 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly with water.

Dirt on the edge?
Organic dirt often accumulates around the so-called waterline. To remove this, we recommend "Randfix" from Bayrol.

Stainless steel to a high shine

Have limescale residues or discolourations formed on the stainless steel parts? You can easily remove these with a commercial stainless steel cleaner. Please do not use strong acids, as they are absolutely unsuitable for stainless steel components.

A closed thing
Before you let in new water, you must close all drain plugs and pump covers, close all ball valves and slide valves in the pipes and remove the plugs from the inlet nozzles.

Water march
Now comes the good part! To fill your pool, we recommend drinking water from the water supply network. This way you can be sure that your filling water is hygienic. Please supervise your pool while it is filling.

Summer position
Once the water is in, please check that all ball valves and sliders are in the "summer position". You can also check them for leaks at the same time.

The values count
Limescale and metal precipitation? Not with us! To avoid this, add Calcinex from Bayrol to the freshly filled pool water. Then you should adjust the pH value. Ideally, this should be between 7.0 and 7.4. Once you have done this, the chlorine is added. Values of 0.3 to 0.6 mg/l free chlorine are ideal.

Filter in good shape?
Now it's time for the filter system. Start it up with a vigorous backwash. If you discover large, hard "sand lumps", you should decalcify the filter with Bayrol's "Decalcit Filter". Is your pool already a few years old? Then you may need to change the filter medium. Sand has a service life of 5 years, AFM material should be changed every 10 years.
