5 mistakes to avoid when winterising your pool
Mistake #1: Winterising the pool too late
We understand: once the pool is in hibernation, it's definitely autumn. Nevertheless, you should winterise your pool in good time. The right time depends less on the month than on the night temperatures. If they drop below 0 degrees, you should winterise your pool.
Mistake #2: Choosing the wrong water level
This mistake happens to pool owners all the time: the water level for winter storage is too high or too low. It is therefore well worth measuring: The water should be lowered to a good 30 centimetres below the inlet jets - or below them if you have massage jets. Also look at your underwater floodlights and make sure that there is still a good 10 to 15 centimetres of water above them. If it rains or snows a lot, check the water level and lower it a little if necessary.
Mistake #3: Taking too little time to winterise.
Good things take time. Take care when winterising, we recommend that even long-time pool owners take a look at the manual. The correct dismantling, cleaning and storage of the dosing system, pumps, control units and other accessories may be time-consuming, but it will save you from unpleasant surprises in spring.
Mistake #4 Forgetting the electrics
Is the electricity really gone? Better double-check that the power supply to your electrical equipment is switched off. An important exception is, of course, the moisture protection system, if your pool has one.
Mistake #5 Not checking the water values
The ideal pH value for winter storage is 7.2 - 7.4. A special winter storage water additive keeps limescale and algae at bay and makes cleaning easier in spring.
